Location:         Bognor Hostel

We are recruiting for a Senior Support Worker within our Bognor Hostel.

Our Residential Services are short stay hostels for single homeless adults designed specifically for local rough sleepers and those facing multiple barriers to accessing traditional accommodation and recovery services. This accommodation provides the first step off the streets and into support to meet the needs of individuals at each stage of their journey out of homelessness

The senior support worker role will lead on daily management of the hostel along with the team leader. The role is crucial to providing stability to the hostel by conducting assessments, developing support plans, managing risk of harm and in supporting front line workers in their keywork sessions. It will involve working closely with other support services both inside Stonepillow and external agencies 

Your duties will include:

  • Ensure daily awareness of risk assessments in line with defined organisational criteria and liaising with the Residential Services Manager, ensure those in need of urgent, specialist support is supported by and engaging in a multi-agency approach.
  • Identify the personal, social, health and employability needs of clients and develop individualised support plans and goal setting for each client. 
  • Deliver life skills support so that clients develop the necessary skills in the key areas of their lives.
  • Manage incidents through the on-call service, emergency services or by providing direct assistance.
  • Achieve service KPIs/outcomes/impact-based performance measures across the service
  • Ensure there is accurate and timely recording of case notes and statistical information on case management system

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrable experience of working within a Homelessness, Substance Misuse or Mental Health setting
  • Knowledge of current housing issues and legislation
  • Knowledge of welfare benefits, housing and homelessness law and policy relevant to rough sleeping and hostel provision.
  • Excellent relationship skills to build trust with clients and staff
  • Proficiency in de-escalation techniques for effective crisis and emergency management
  • Ability to use a computer, including proficiency in the use of word processing and data entry tools
  • Excellent critical-thinking skills and the ability to respond quickly to emergency situations
